The convention was anchored on the theme Promoting Social, Economic , and Environmental Justice through Global Citizenship Education.

The convention aims to provide a forum for future educators, researchers, policy makers, technocrats, and professionals to update and share on the impact and implications of global citizenship education in promoting social equity, economic prosperity, and environmental sustainability; to discuss the best practices and future collaborative projects on 21st century learning and innovations, global issues and solutions and a wide array of advocacies; to embark on relevant and sustainable action plans for the various WCCI special interest groups (SIG); and to establish network among the delegates.

In her keynote speech, Sr. Merceditas Ang, SPC, (President, WCCI Philippine Chapter) expounded the theme of the convention. She reiterated, “In today’s globalized world where there are diverse learners, education must inculcate respect and tolerance of the uniqueness as well as differences of peoples and cultures.”

Dr. Carolina P. Danao, Co-Convenor WCCI-PSTN gave a talk on the WCCI and Global Citizenship Goals of the PSTN. Teresita P. Pedrajas, Convenor WCCI-PSTN oriented the participants on the 12 Special Interest Groups (SIG): Global Citizenship Education, Community Development, Environmental Sustainability, Peace Education, Human Rights, Gender Empowerment, Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Information Technology Literacy, Teacher Education, Values Education and Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment.

In addition to concurrent sessions for SIGs, sharing of best practices and induction of new members were also held. “Attending the convention allowed us future teachers to be equipped with adequate knowledge on how to be a global citizen; it was a learning experience and an excellent opportunity to build greater bond with student teachers all around the country,” shared Jamaica Foronda, one of the participants from SPUP.

“The convention was a timely event for pre-service teachers, like us, to get enlightened on how to teach our future learners, even elementary kids, to get involved in advocacies that promote projects that effect transformative change and that have proactive contributions,” added by Alvin Joy Aslarona, a Paulinian BEED student from Tuguegarao City.

Indeed, the one-day seminar was short, but learning-filled!
