SPUP project entry, the SMART IRRIGATION DRIP SYSTEM (SIDS), was selected as one of the TOP 5 FINALISTS out of 12 qualifying entries in the 2024 Science Research and Technology (SRT) Innovation Contest, under Youth Category.
The project-proponents were Ms. Trisha Marielle T. Basa, Ms. Zachiebelle Avril S. Canapi, and Ms. Princess Joy R. Garcia (BEU-Junior High School students) with their research adviser Dr. Learni Javier.
The SIDS project showcases a forward-thinking approach to irrigation, integrating smart technology to improve water conservation and efficiency—crucial factors for sustainable agriculture. The system is designed to deliver precise amounts of water to crops, ensuring minimal waste and optimal growth, which can have a significant impact in regions where water resources are scarce or costly.
Organized by the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) of the Philippines, the contest was held on November 8-10, 2024 and highlighted the theme: “Innovative Solutions for a Sustainable Future: Transforming Agriculture Through AI-Driven Green Technologies.” The next pitching event for finalists is scheduled on November 22, 2024.
