To reinforce character building and ethical instruction within classroom environments, members of the Basic Education Unit (BEU) faculty gathered on October 15, 2026, for a specialized Session on Values Formation. Held at the Junior High School (JHS) Audiovisual Room, the undertaking was organized as part of the University’s ongoing Faculty Development Program aimed at enhancing educators’ roles in student development. The assembly brought together grade school, junior high school and senior high school teachers eager to refine their pedagogical approaches toward character formation. Through collaborative discussions and reflective activities, participants examined how teacher-student dynamics directly influence learners’ moral development.
The featured speaker for the forum was Dr. Cellie S.L. Santos (Member, SPUP Board of Trustees), who delivered a key presentation titled “Values Formation through Everyday Teaching Experiences.” In her discussion, Dr. Santos emphasized that character education went far beyond formal lesson plans and structured curricula, pointing out that daily interactions and spontaneous teachable moments served as the primary medium for instilling core virtues in learners. She drew upon decades of academic leadership to illustrate how simple classroom routines could become transformative moral opportunities. Furthermore, she encouraged educators to remain mindful of their demeanor, noting that students often internalize implicit lessons through non-verbal cues and daily habits.
Highlighting the vital role teachers played as living examples, Dr. Santos remarked, “Students learn values through what we teach and what we model as Values Formators, and how we immediately respond to unexpected situations in our everyday mission as Paulinian educators.” The session formed an integral part of SPUP’s continuous drive to equip its academic personnel with active, intentional strategies for holistic student formation while aligning institutional values across all grade levels. The activity reinforced the shared responsibility of the teaching community to foster environments where ethical principles thrive alongside academic excellence.
