NURSING STUDENTS, CLINICAL INSTRUCTOR IMMERSE IN INDONESIA

Four (4) student nurses from BSN Level II namely Sheikylla Cacam, Athea Ceballos, Maxine Luis and Geraldine Macaraniag, together with Mr. Sherwin Pazzibugan, RN (Nursing Instructor) participated in the two-week International Health and Culture Program organized by Faculty of Health Sciences of Universitas Brawijaya (UB) in Malang, Indonesia, May 6-17, 2024.
The student-bound program convened 20 nursing and nutrition students from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), University Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin Malaysia (USZAM) and St. Paul University Philippines (SPUP). The delegates received sponsorship grant from the organizing university which covers the program and tuition fees, food, accommodation, and local transport of the delegates.
During the first week, the delegates underwent series of lecture, skills laboratory didactics, collaborative activities and clinical observership in one of the posyandus and Puskesmas Janti which serve as local health centers in Malang City. They also engaged in Indonesian culture through city tours and experience of gastronomic tourism in the said city.
Meanwhile, Mr. Pazzibugan discussed fundamental concepts on community health nursing to third year students of UB, underscoring the best practices of SPUP in utilizing community organizing to partner communities of CON. The delegates also underwent clinical internship activities in Dr. Saiful Anwar General Hospital and Community Mental Health Nursing Center in Bantur District to experience first-hand the healthcare landscape in Indonesia.
