EU AMBASSADOR TO PH INSPIRES GRADUATES AT SPUP’S 84TH COMMENCEMENT EXERCISES

June 13, 2026 – St. Paul University Philippines (SPUP) welcomed His Excellency Massimo Santoro, (Ambassador of the European Union to the Philippines), as the distinguished Guest Speaker for its 84th Commencement Exercises. Sr. Merceditas Ang, SPC (University President) led the SPUP academic community in welcoming the ambassador to the campus. Addressing a new generation of globally competent graduates equipped to navigate an ever-changing world, Ambassador Santoro delivered a profound address that aligned seamlessly with the university’s institutional commitment to “making a difference globally.”
In an inspiring address directly to more than 1,600 bachelors, masters and doctoral graduates, Ambassador Santoro honored their hard work and perseverance before reminding them that this milestone serves as a pivotal transition point in their lives. “Today we celebrate your achievements, perseverance, and your dreams,” the Ambassador stated. He challenged the class to embrace the future with courage, emphasizing, “Graduation is not only an ending… it is also the start, the beginning of new responsibility. You are entering a world facing profound challenges… yet you are also entering the world full of opportunity, the world that needs your creativity, your integrity, your leadership.”
Beyond inspiring the graduating class, Ambassador Santoro highly commended the efforts of SPUP in strengthening its focus on research, innovation, and sustainability at a time when science and technology are essential to solving global challenges. Highlighting the importance of international cooperation, the diplomat also presented several European Union initiatives, warmly encouraging students and alumni to actively participate in such activities to expand their global competence. Through his inspiring address, the Ambassador established an impactful tone for the graduation, anchoring the event in SPUP’s long-standing dedication to cultivating empathetic, globally conscious leaders prepared to make a difference in society.
