In an era where globalization has become an intrinsic part of education, St. Paul University Philippines (SPUP) stands as a beacon of internationalization with its recent initiative that propelled its senior high school students onto the global stage. From April 26 to May 4, 2024, a group of Paulinian students embarked on an International Work Immersion program in Singapore and Malaysia. The program was an exemplary partnership between SPUP and SMS Phoenix Consultancy, facilitated by Dr. Sri Devi Aynaru (Managing Director). Dr. Aynaru’s expertise in educational consultancy was instrumental in crafting an experience that would be both enriching and transformative for the students.
Under the guidance of their chaperones, Mr. Jeojomar Erro and Mr. Israel Palma, the students plunged into a well-orchestrated series of activities and learning sessions that spanned two of the Southeast Asia’s most dynamic countries. In Singapore, the Paulinian students were immersed in an educational milieu that emphasized interactive learning in coding and robotics. They were introduced to the world of programming and automation, engaging in hands-on activities that revealed the intricacies of creating and managing robots. This exposure was pivotal, considering the surge in demand for skills in automation and artificial intelligence across various industries.
Virtual reality (VR) was another area where students gained practical insights. Through immersive experiences and expert-led discussions, they explored the potential of VR in revolutionizing sectors like healthcare, real estate, and, notably, education. The immersion also delved into the realms of innovation and technological integration in education. The students visited Singaporean educational institutions where tech-enabled teaching methods are the norm, not the exception. Observing classrooms where interactive smart boards and AI-facilitated learning are utilized, the students were inspired to envision how such technologies could be applied within their own educational contexts.
The entrepreneurial aspect of the program was not overlooked. Through workshops and discussions with local entrepreneurs, the students learned about the entrepreneurial mindset and the journey from ideation to execution. These interactions provided practical knowledge and motivation for the students, many of whom harbor aspirations of starting their own ventures.
The experience extended to Malaysia, where the students were welcomed with an array of educational and industrial visits. They engaged with Malaysian counterparts, understanding the country’s approach to education and industry. In Malaysia, the cultural diversity and rich heritage provided a backdrop for the students to appreciate the socio-economic diversity of the region. They visited different landmarks and engaged in cultural exchanges that enriched their worldviews, fostering a deeper appreciation for the ASEAN community. As the students returned home, they brought back not just memories, but a transformative experience that would inform their academic and professional journeys.
