SPUP, through its Graduate School’s Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing Science program, sent its first group of PhD Nursing students to the International Cultural Immersion and Advanced Nursing Practice program in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Held from September 14 to 18, 2026, the five-day initiative supported the university’s commitment to globally responsive nursing education, research, leadership, and professional development.
The delegation was led by Dr. Allan Paulo Blaquera, (Associate Dean, Nursing & Faculty-in-Charge). The participants wers hosted by Dr. Alfred Dahbi, (Director, Academic Operations and Education at Burjeel Holdings & SPUP Alumnus). Academic and professional activities were conducted at Burjeel Medical City, Burjeel Hospital, Fatima College of Health Sciences, and Burjeel Training Academy.
During the immersion, the PhD in Nursing students examined contemporary approaches to nursing education, administration, and clinical practice. Key areas included patient safety, infection prevention, competency-based education, preceptorship, nursing informatics and analytics, workforce development, quality improvement, simulation, organizational leadership, research, emerging technologies, and culturally responsive healthcare.
Through professional dialogue and reciprocal learning with healthcare leaders, educators, nurses, and academic professionals in the UAE, participants were encouraged to translate their observations into research and practical applications within their respective institutions. The immersion reinforced SPUP’s role in preparing nursing scholars to address complex, technology-enabled, and culturally diverse healthcare systems while advancing knowledge and transforming practice across borders.
