IMAGINING TOMORROW, CREATING TODAY: STUDENT-LEADERS EXPLORE FUTURES THINKING

On May 14, 2025, the Paulinian Volunteers for Community Development (PVCD) – Club for UNESCO successfully organized and facilitated the Futures Thinking Workshop, “Imagining Tomorrow, Creating Today,” as part of the student-track of the 9th SPUP IIRC Pre-Conference. The event brought together student-leaders from various academic departments and campus organizations, along with staff members from the Community Development Center, in a shared space for reflection, dialogue, and forward-looking learning.
The workshop was made especially significant through the presence of Dr. Shermon Cruz, (UNESCO Chair of Anticipatory Governance and Regenerative Cities). Through his thought-provoking discussion, he inspired meaningful conversations on the pressing realities and challenges of the contemporary world, inviting participants to examine how present conditions influence the futures that are gradually being shaped.
More than an academic session, the workshop served as a platform for critical thinking and imaginative engagement. It encouraged participants to envision transformative possibilities while deepening their appreciation of futures literacy, anticipatory leadership, and collective action as essential forces in building sustainable, inclusive, and resilient communities.
