SPUP formally launched its Open University (SPUPOU) on May 14, 2026. The event, themed “Rooted in Faith, Powered by Purpose, Making a Difference Globally,” introduced a technology-driven platform designed to provide transformative and inclusive education. Sr. Merceditas Ang, SPC (University President), emphasized in her keynote address that the new branch is a mission-driven response to the need for lifelong learning. This initiative extends a long-standing legacy of excellence into the digital space to serve working professionals and students facing location constraints. The program aims to ensure that quality education reaches every learner, wherever they are and whenever they are ready.
A defining feature of the new entity is its landmark international partnership with the Education Centre of Australia (ECA). This collaboration, highlighted by Steve Berridge (ECA Ventures CEO), provides students with globally recognized pathways and joint program development. These mobility opportunities connect local learners to international standards while maintaining a shared commitment to accessible, quality learning. The launch featured a symbolic website reveal for spupou.com and a formal handing of a partnership token from the collaborators. This partnership signifies a bold and purposeful step that opens the doors of quality education to learners regardless of geography.
For the Academic Year 2026-2027, the curriculum is set to offer pilot programs aligned with the specific demands of modern innovation. These offerings include a Master in Health Management and Innovation as well as a Master in Artificial Intelligence. Students may also enroll in the Bachelor of Computer Network and Security or the Bachelor of Business Analytics and AI. These programs are designed to be flexible and inclusive, measuring success by impact, values, and leadership. Mr. Warren Moises (Director for SPUPOU and ECA Philippines) noted that the initiative addresses a spirit of welcome and excitement surrounding global learning.
The official launch concluded with a media Q&A session involving leadership and various press representatives. Following the ceremony, the university invited prospective learners to explore free courses on the OpenLearning platform. Attendees were encouraged to follow official social media handles on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok to stay updated.
