With the theme: “The Emerging World of Data Science,” the annual Cyber Summit was successfully held on April 26-27, 2018. Participated in by IT and Engineering students and professionals from all over Cagayan Valley, the 2018 Cyber Summit served as an avenue for the sharing of challenges and opportunities in the disciplines of Information Technology and Engineering.
Renowned resource speakers were invited to deliver inspirational and educational topics beneficial to both students and professionals. The Keynote Addresses of Dr. Honorato Alzate, (Director, Commission on Higher Education) and Engr. Melanio Briosos (Director, Department of Public Works and Highways) particularly challenged IT and Engineering students to always have a positive attitude towards life and work.
Break-out sessions ensued in which the following the discussions relevant to IT education were led by: Dr. Neil Balba, (Dean, College of Computer Studies- LP Laguna) on the Future career of IT Professionals relevant to Data Science and Technopreneurship; Mr. Rey Tuddao, (CHED, Education Supervisor) on Big Data and Analytics; and, Engr. Diosdado Caronongan (Dean, College of Computer Studies University of Luzon) on Embedded Systems and Robotics.
Meanwhile, engineering students and practitioners had a chance to interact with Engr. Karen Matusalem on her discussion on Occupational Safety and Health Orientation; and, Engr. Mario Oligo, an SPUP alumnus on his presentation about the Future of ASEAN Engineers.
The two-day event also included competitions along the areas of Infographics, Infomercial and Hardware Servicing and the presentation of Computer Engineering and IT students of their capstone projects.
