On June 13, 2019, the School of Business, Accountancy and Hospitality Management conducted a seminar on Sustainable Tourism Development facilitated by the Former Department of Tourism Undersecretary, Ms. Alma Rita Jimenez. The seminar was conducted at the SPUP Global Center and was participated in by Hospitality Management, Tourism Management and Accountancy and Business Management (ABM) - Senior High School students.
Ms. Jimenez expounded the topic: “Pathways in Hospitality and Tourism Education: Itinerary to Exploring Future Career Tracks,” where she focused on the wide array of careers available for Tourism and Hospitality graduates. Accordingly, both hospitality and tourism industries are dynamic and promising. She explained that tourism and hospitality sectors provide employment and livelihood and promote economic and social growth. She also presented the current trends on tourism and the necessity of creating tourism network among the ASEAN countries.
On Sustainable Tourism Development, Ms. Jimenez explained that the sustainability of tourism means achieving quality growth to foster the conservation of natural environment and the preservation of heritage of local communities. She added that the goal of sustaining tourism is to ensure that development has a positive impact for local people and the tourists.
The seminar ended with the awarding of certificate of appreciation to the resource speaker by Sr. Merceditas O. Ang, SPC (University President).
