May 17, 2025 — St. Paul University Philippines (SPUP) hosted the graduation ceremony of Project DAVID: Mental Health & Well-being Junior Coaching Program, an initiative implemented in collaboration with the Emotional Reset Center USA, LLC. The event marked the completion of the program by participants who have undergone training in coaching and mental health advocacy.
The day began with a workshop led by Mr. Francis John Verceles II titled “Mastering the Art of Active Listening.” The session provided participants with practical strategies to improve communication—an essential skill in the field of mental health support. In the afternoon, a reflection activity facilitated by Dr. Maria Bryce Fabro, (Founder, Emotional Reset Center and Project DAVID), guided participants in reviewing their progress and experiences throughout the program. Sr. Merceditas Ang, SPC, (University President and Partner-Chair of Project DAVID Philippines), welcomed attendees and delivered a congratulatory message. She emphasized the value of institutional partnerships and multi-sectoral collaboration in supporting mental health initiatives.
A keynote address by Dr. Brenda Valenzuela-Fortune, (Co-Founder of the Emotional Reset Center and Project DAVID), outlined the broader objectives of the program, focusing on capacity building for young individuals to become mental health coaches and facilitators within their respective communities. Graduates then received their diplomas and Coach Membership Affirmation Certificates, signifying the successful completion of their training and their readiness to apply their skills in educational and community settings. Dr. Claudette Gamiao, (Head, Guidance Services Unit), concluded the event by acknowledging the contributions of the participants and partners. She reiterated the university’s commitment to supporting programs that promote mental health education and capacity development.
The Project DAVID graduation marked the completion of a training phase and the beginning of the graduates’ involvement in mental health initiatives within and beyond the institution.
