A group of students and educators from the Basic Education Unit (BEU) recently took part in a six-day educational and cultural immersion in Taiwan, aimed at broadening global perspectives and fostering intercultural understanding. From April 24–29, 2025 and in collaboration with SMS Phoenix Global, the delegation, composed of three Grade School pupils, seven Junior High School students, two parents, and a faculty chaperone, engaged in a variety of experiential learning activities that brought Taiwan’s history, language, and traditions to life. From exploring the 921 Earthquake Museum to discovering local art and heritage in San Yi, the students were immersed in real-world learning environments that highlighted Taiwan’s resilience and cultural richness.
Highlights of the trip included a Chinese language session at National Chin Yi University of Technology and a meaningful cultural exchange at Kuo Kuang Elementary School, where students practiced calligraphy and shared tokens with their Taiwanese counterparts. They also visited the Taipei Astronomical Museum and Taipei 101, where they deepened their understanding of science and modern architecture. A visit to the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall offered valuable historical insights, while the use of public transportation provided a glimpse into everyday life in Taiwan. Each activity not only enhanced academic learning but also cultivated essential life skills such as independence, adaptability, and cross-cultural communication.
Throughout the immersion, students demonstrated enthusiasm, curiosity, and a genuine openness to new experiences. Parents praised the initiative for its educational depth and the opportunity it provided for holistic growth. More than just a travel experience, the Taiwan immersion served as a living classroom where students became active participants in learning. As they returned home, the young Paulinians carried with them not just souvenirs and photographs, but lasting memories, meaningful lessons, and a deeper appreciation for global citizenship.
