Sr. Merceditas Ang SPC, (University President), Dr. Janette Fermin, (Program Coordinator, Senior High School); Ms. Jamaica Michelle Foronda, (Coordinator, LET Review); and Ms. Clarissa B. Orpilla, (Member, Quality Assurance Team) participated in the 2023 Philippine Education (PhilEd) Conference held at the SMX Convention Center, Pasay City from December 5-7, 2023.

Organized by the Private Education Assistance Committee (PEAC), the activity aimed to provide an avenue to discuss issues and opportunities in Philippine education, with the aim to improve the country’s quality of teaching and learning. This year’ conference bore the theme: “Inspiring Reforms That Transform Philippine Education.” It focused on the necessity to address the existing educational issues in the country and the role of cooperation among stakeholders in making the proposed reforms into a reality. Plenary sessions and panel discussions with experts were held during the event to tackle topics concerning emerging issues and trends in education, teacher quality, governance and financing, basic education, and tertiary education.

“The PhilEd conference is one of the highlights of my budding career as an educator,” Ms. Orpilla noted. “This learning opportunity has provided me with fresh perspectives about our present educational landscape of our country and what can I contribute as an agent of change to make it better.”

“As educators we truly need to invest in quality education because it’s a way to uplift life, particularly that of our young learners whom we consider to be the hope of our motherland,” Ms.Foronda added.

In its constant endeavor to solidify its role in innovating the quality of education it offers, SPUP dedicates itself in cooperating with other stakeholders through its participation in national dialogues that tackle pressing concerns in the Philippine educational system.

The PhilEd Conference is held every two years. The next conference will be held on December 2025 to discuss the updates on the progress of the proposed reforms from this year’s convention.
