As an offshoot of the partnership between SPUP and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) – Region II, SPUP Library, through the Knowledge and Information Resource Network (KIRN) features the use of DOST-“Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated KioskS” (Starbooks) effective this school year, 2023-2024. The endeavor advances a digital library system aimed at providing accessible and up-to-date scientific and technological information to the public.

On October 06, 2023, the orientation and demonstration sessions were conducted by Mr. Napoleon Medin Jester Babaran, (DOST – Science Research Specialist). He emphasized that Starbooks is a cutting-edge learning resource system and an innovative digital library and knowledge repository. Accordingly, Starbooks provides a vast collection of digital materials, including e-books, academic journals, research papers, multimedia content, and more, covering a wide range of topics and disciplines. Its user-friendly interface and advanced search capabilities make it a valuable tool for students, researchers, educators, and lifelong learners.

During the demonstration, SPUP librarians and personnel were guided through the process of accessing Starbooks, which can be done through various platforms, including web browsers, mobile apps, and offline versions. They were also given hands-on experience in navigating the Starbooks platform and were led through the user-friendly interface, learning how to search for specific resources and access materials for various academic disciplines. Moreover, they were shown how to use advanced search options to find relevant materials quickly, making it accessible to both educators and students.
