After three years of hiatus due to COVID-19 pandemic, SPUP’s School of Information Technology and Engineering (SITE) has taken the lead in advancing global trends and innovative practices in Information Technology and Engineering education through the 2023 Regional Cyber Summit. Anchored on the theme, “Driving Sustainable Development through Innovation of Technology for a Better Future,”the regional convergence was held on May 24-26, 2023, at the SPUP Global Center.  It was participated in IT and Engineering practitioners, professionals and students from Higher Education Institutions in Cagayan Valley.

A Eucharistic celebration signaled the beginning of the academic gathering. The opening program was highlighted by the keynote speech of Atty. Marco Cicero F. Domingo (Regional Director, Commission on Higher Education II).  In the following day, sessions and discussions focused on ITE specializations were held. For Information Technology and Computer Engineering tracks, Mr. Mars Cacacho presented “Hacking your way to a Career in Cyber Security,” while,Engr. Lexus Valkyrie Lobigas talked about “Artificial Intelligence and Robotics”. For Civil Engineering and Environmental and Sanitary Engineering sessions, students listened and actively participated on the topic “Design of Resilient Structures for Sustainable Constructions” by Engr. Jhon Philip M. Rivera and Engr. Jove G. Revocal on “Computer Aided Designed Infrastructure”. In the plenary, Dr. Raquel Santos lectured on “Innovation for Smart and Sustainable Communities,” followed by “Sustainable Strategies in Design, Construction, and Operation of Infrastructure” by Engr. Mario S. Oligo who delivered his talk via video conference.

The summit was made more interesting and enjoyable as friendly skills competitions on Bridge Building, Bread Boarding, Mobile Legends, Call of Duty Mobile, and Digital Poster Making were also endeavored. The following teams hacked their way to victory in the competitions: Nueva Vizcaya State University won the Bridge Building competition, Cagayan State University – Carig Campus for breadboarding and digital poster competitions, and SPUP Team 4 for Mobile Legends competition.
