True to its mission of making a difference globally, St. Paul University Philippines has widened its linkages in ensuring international quality standard education after realizing its partnership with Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages (WZU) in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. WZU is the only university devoted to languages education in southern Taiwan that teaches foreign languages using the target language as the language of instruction. Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages has bilateral agreements with a number of universities abroad. St. Paul University Philippines became its recent partner when two students under the program Doctor of Philosophy in Rhetoric and Linguistics were deployed for their short-term international and cross-cultural exposure as part of their internship program on April 27-May 9, 2019. The partnership was facilitated by Dr. Concepcion G. Doyugan (SPUP PhD-RL Program Coordinator) and Dr. Aiden (WZU Director, Office of International Cross-strait Cooperation).

The pioneer batch of interns who were sent were Ana Rose M. Dela Cruz and Ronald A. Mayo. They had class observations with the Master’s and the graduating students’ classes of Dr. Aiden Yeh in Critical Discourse Analysis and Cross Cultural Communication respectively. Ms. Dela Cruz had her observations and demonstration teaching with Ms. Lee-Fen Lan with the Junior College students in their English class on Listening and Conversation, while Mr. Mayo underwent cross-cultural exposure in a series of class observations and teaching demonstration handling the Reading class of Dr. Tilla Chen with the Third Year University students. They also watched the traditional Japanese Puppet Show, visited several museums where cultural shows were presented. They also experienced the unique culture of the Taiwanese people including their traditions, foods, and customs.

Dr. Vivian Wu welcomed Mr. Mayo and Ms. Dela Cruz in the university and congratulated them for the success of their international internship.
