Dr. Rosalinda Tanguilan (Director, Knowledge and Information Resource Network) participated in the International Library Benchmarking Tour organized by the Philippine Association of Academic/Research Librarians, Inc. (PAARL) in Australia. Held on October 20 – 27, 2018, PAARL’s delegation enplaned to Sydney, home to some of the most innovative libraries, cultural heritage sites and productiveness in Australia, for the said endeavour.

The group visited and interacted with the management of Macquarie University Library; University of New South Wales Main Library; University of Sydney, Australia; Surry Hills Library and the National Library of Australia. They also had a chance to visit some cultural sites like: the Queen Victoria Building; Australian Museum; Captain Cook Cruises Sydney Harbour; Sydney Tower Observation Deck; The Sydney Opera House; Sydney Sea Life Aquarium; Royal Botanical Garden; Hyde Park; Woolloomooloo Bay; King Wharf’s Street; The Rock and the Bondi Beach.

The said international benchmarking tour of PAARL aimed: a) to observe and appreciate the contemporary architecture and design of libraries in Sydney; b) to establish international linkages and foster collaboration across international network of libraries; and c) to learn from best practices and experiences of more innovative libraries in Sydney, relevant to services, processes, projects, resources, and staff development.
