The Philippine Society of Information Technology Educators Foundation, Inc. (PSITE), the nation’s largest professional IT organization held the 16th National Conference on IT Education on October 25-27, 2018. With theme “iPSITE: Creating and Promoting a Culture of Innovation” the conference was in collaboration with Commission on Higher Education, St. Paul University Philippines and PSITE Region 2 Chapter and was participated in by IT Educators, researchers and practitioners from all over the country.
A pre-conference on the “Application of the Data Privacy Act of 2012 in the different Sectors of the Industry” and “Most Common Types of Breaches in the Philippine Setting was facilitated Dr. Rolando R. Lansigan, the Chief of the Compliance and Monitoring Division of the National Privacy Commission. Moreover, parallel sessions on Principles and Best Practices in IT Education Research (by Dr. Anna Liza Ramos); Academic Writing for Publication (Dr. Cecilia Mercado); and Research Areas in IT/CS/IS (by Dr. Maria Visitacion N. Gumabay) were conducted.
In the opening program, Sister Merceditas O. Ang, SPC, (SPUP President) welcomed all the participants and guests. Dr. Marmelo Abante, (PSITE National President) discussed the statement of purpose of the conference; while, Dr. Gilbert Tumibay, (Conference Chair) gave the overview of the conference and the presented the participants.The ceremonies were highlighted by the Keynote Speech of Director Clint D. Hassan, (Executive Director IV, Minimum Access Volume Department of Agriculture) who discussed on fostering a culture of innovation towards a sustainable and change resilient future.
Plenary sessions followed the opening program. Mr. Benjie Tan, (Globe Business Head of Research and Development, Technology and Design) presented his topic on “Future Ready Research Infrastructure towards Sustainable Development,” while, Dr. Vladimir Mariano on “Innovation towards sustainable development”. Dr. Rex Bringula, (Research Director College of Computer Studies and Systems University of the East) shared his expertise on “Building Research and Innovation Capacities in IT Education,” while Dr. Jessie Barrot (Dean College of Education, Arts and Sciences of National University) on the “Challenges and Issues in Fostering a Culture of Innovation.”
The conference also featured poster presentation and the CHED update on Research and Innovation discussed by Mr. Don dela Cruz, (ITE Supervisor, Region 02).
