October 24, 2018 – Sr. Merceditas Ang, SPC (University President) presented SPUP’s “Educational Pathways in the 4th Industrial Revolution.” Held at the Mo. Madeleine Hall and participated in by the University employees and SPC Sisters, she mentioned that as educators, we prepare our students to survive and thrive in a global and technology-driven society. As such, the knowledge and skills of the students and graduates must match the needs of the industry and labor markets. The 21st century competencies like critical thinking and problem solving ability, creativity and innovation, communication and multimedia literacy, collaboration and teamwork, character and service, cultural competency, and career and life skills must be imbedded in the curriculum and instruction to prepare the students in the 4th Industrial Revolution, characterized by advanced technologies like artificial intelligence, robotics, Internet of things, data analytics, genomics, virtual reality and cloud computing etc. Values formation and work ethics must be emphasized in our holistic Paulinian Education.
She challenged the academic community to foster learning by doing or experiential learning. She said that in the 4th Industrial Revolution, there will be a fusion of physical, digital and biological processes. There will be changes and transformation in the labor markets as some existing jobs may disappear and new jobs will be created.
At SPUP, we need to transform and enhance our educational mileau and adopt the changes and innovations in the educational landscape. We use technology to realize our vision-mission and institutional goals, and to develop our students to be Christ-like and become the best persons that they can be.
