The Guidance Office organized a seminar on Facilitating Skills and Counseling Strategies for the Homeroom Advisers of the Basic Education Unit. The activity was conducted on January 23 and February 20, 2019 at SPUP’s Guidance Center and was participated in by 44 Grade School and Junior High School Homeroom Teachers.
Dr. Teresita Lasam, (Head, Guidance Services) on her discussion on “Counseling for Teachers: Skills and Strategies,” amplified that counseling skills are essential for teachers to promote both student learning and well-being. She also explained the indispensible role of classroom adviser in resolving student issues and concerns as they spend more time with students than any other professional in the school. Moreover, Dr. Claudeth Gamiao, (Guidance Counselor) on her talk on “Homeroom Facilitating Skills,” emphasized the process of facilitation for homeroom activities to create a learning environment for students to have a better understanding of their thoughts, feelings and behaviors. Accordingly, facilitating fosters students to be active participant in discussions, teamwork, and group activities leading to a comprehensive learning.
