September 20, 2025 — The SPUP administration, led by Sr. Merceditas Ang, SPC, (University President) warmly received Hon. Francisco “Kiko” Benitez, PhD, (Director General, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority) and his delegation during an official campus visit. SPUP and TESDA leaders exchanged perspectives on strengthening technical and vocational education in the region, highlighting SPUP’s existing programs and institutional capacity. The visit provided an opportunity for both parties to outline mutual priorities and to identify areas where collaboration could be pursued.
Discussions centered on positioning SPUP as a provider of TESDA-accredited programs and as a potential TESDA Assessment Center for Region II. TESDA representatives reviewed accreditation criteria, assessment center standards, and capacity requirements, while university officials described current training offerings, faculty expertise, and facility resources. Both sides explored concrete steps—such as conducting site assessments, mapping program offerings to TESDA competency standards, and identifying necessary equipment or trainer qualifications—to meet accreditation and assessment center requirements.
As a next step, the two institutions agreed to form a technical working group to carry out feasibility studies and develop a roadmap for implementation, including timelines for application, compliance, and possible memorandum of agreement. If realized, the collaboration aims to expand access to industry-recognized certifications, strengthen workforce readiness, and enhance employment opportunities for students and residents across Region II.
