St. Paul University Philippines (SPUP) has accepted an invitation from MERCY Malaysia to participate in an earthquake response mission in Cebu scheduled for 5–13 October 2025. Five SPUP representatives through the Community Development Center (CDC) were deployed alongside MERCY Malaysia teams. SPUP emphasized that MERCY Malaysia is the university’s partner in disaster response and recovery, formalizing an operational relationship for coordinated relief efforts. This deployment followed recent collaboration through a Psychological First Aid Training of Trainers held in February 2025, highlighting prior capacity-building and joint planning. Organizers said the partnership combines SPUP’s local knowledge with MERCY Malaysia’s international relief experience to deliver coordinated medical and psychosocial support.
The operation in Cebu will focus on rapid needs assessment, medical assistance, and psychosocial support for earthquake-impacted communities. As SPUP’s declared partner in disaster response and recovery, MERCY Malaysia will lead logistics and international coordination while SPUP provides community liaison and local health expertise. Both organizations noted that formal partnership arrangements facilitate knowledge exchange, logistical coordination, and adherence to humanitarian accountability standards. Both SPUP and MERCY Malaysia are committed to continued collaborative engagement for future disasters.
