In a significant step toward elevating the quality of Philippine higher education, 38 delegates from 19 selected Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and 12 representatives from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) convened at the Richmonde Hotel, Iloilo City, for the 26th AUN-QA Tier 1 Training Course. Held from February 10–13, 2026, the four-day intensive program focused on “Accomplishing Programme Assessment, Version 4.0.” Organized by the ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) Secretariat, the workshop aimed to ground participants in the eight core AUN-QA criteria, fostering a deeper understanding of internal quality assurance (IQA) systems to meet rigorous international benchmarks.
St. Paul University Philippines (SPUP) played a pivotal role in these strategic sessions, represented by Dr. Jeremy Godofredo Morales (Director, Internationalization) and Dr. Allan Peejay Lappay (Director, Alumni, External Relations, and Advocacies). Alongside peer institutions, the SPUP delegation engaged in collaborative group discussions and technical presentations, receiving expert feedback from renowned trainers Dr. Clarita D. Carillo (UST, Philippines) and Dr. Tan Kay Chuan (NUS, Singapore). This hands-on approach allowed the representatives to translate complex quality frameworks into actionable strategies for their respective campuses.
The event underscored a collective commitment to CHED’s ACHIEVE Agenda, reinforcing partnerships aimed at advancing the Philippine education sector toward global competitiveness. By bridging theoretical foundations with practical application, the training ensured that participating HEIs are now better equipped to undergo formal program assessments. The training-workshop demonstrates SPUP’s commitment to strengthen its quality assurance frameworks, ensuring that ASEAN standards are seamlessly integrated into the heart of its academic programs.
