Four senior high school students from St. Paul University Philippines (SPUP) participated in the 2025 Glocalization: European–Asian Cultural Experience held at Providence University in Taichung City, Taiwan, from August 3 to 12. They were part of a group of 20 young delegates from the Philippines, engaging in a program that combined academic courses with cultural excursions to promote cross-cultural understanding. This opportunity not only allowed them to represent their school and country but also exposed them to diverse perspectives from students around the world, enhancing their global outlook.
The SPUP delegates—Kate Valerie E. Berbon, Joseff Kyle I. Balubal, Kanoa Leon T. Garcia, and Jahnrodz Juillet T. Fermin—attended classes focused on the cultures of Taiwan, Japan, and Spain. They participated in workshops on intercultural communication, which aimed to enhance their global perspectives and interpersonal skills through a combination of lectures and hands-on experiences. Engaging with students from different backgrounds enriched their learning and fostered meaningful discussions on cultural similarities and differences, preparing them for a more interconnected world.
In addition to classroom learning, the students explored significant sites in Taichung, including Sun Moon Lake, Checheng Village, Shen Ji New Village, and the National Taichung Theater. These tours allowed them to gain a deeper appreciation for Taiwanese culture and community life. They not only witnessed the beauty of Taiwan’s landscapes and architecture but also interacted with locals, enhancing their understanding of Taiwanese traditions and customs. This cultural immersion experience will help them share insights and foster cultural dialogue upon their return to the Philippines, inspiring their peers to broaden their own cultural horizons.
