SPUP CONCLUDES ACADEMIC YEAR 2018-2019

SPUP concluded its academic year, 2018-2019 through the celebration of its 77th Commencement Exercises on June 22, 2019.

The Baccalaureate Mass was presided by Rev. Fr. Benjamin Lasam (Parish Priest and Rector, Sto. Niño Shrine and Parish) at the Our Lady of Chartres Chapel. As the Eucharistic Celebration incorporated the solemn Rite of Mission Sending, the graduates prayed for their Missionary Promises as the congregation imparted their blessings on them.

The Graduation Rites (Solemn Investiture and Conferment of Titles and Degrees) were held at the Cagayan Coliseum. The graduation was highlighted by the Commencement Address of the Guest of Honor, Atty. Alfonso Reyno, Jr., who expounded the theme: “Making a Difference Globally.” He was also conferred the degree, Doctor of Humanities Honoris Causa.

Rev. Fr. Macario Malano, Jr. (MA in Education, with Distinction Award) led the Invocation. Ms. Jamaica Michelle Foronda (Bachelor in Secondary Education, Cum Laude) read the address of petition followed by the presentation of the graduates by Dr. Agripina Maribbay (VP Academics). Subsequently, Sr. Merceditas Ang, SPC (University President) conferred on the graduates the titles and degrees of their respective courses and programs. Ms. Shania Myca Salas (BS Psychology, Magna Cum Laude) expressed the gratitude of the graduates through her valedictory address. Dr. Malen Daquioag (Doctor in Business Management, Loyalty Awardee), led the graduates to their Pledge of Loyalty, while, Mr. Miguel Lim (President, SPUPAA) inducted them to the Alumni Association.

The June 2019 graduation also featured the pioneer-graduates of SPUP Special Programs. 23 Municipal Mayors, Municipal Health Officers and Public Health Nurses (from 10 Municipalities in Region 2) received their Certificate in Municipal Leadership and Governance. The said program is spearheaded by Zuellig Family Foundation and the Department of Health (DOH), with SPUP as their academic partner. Moreover, 31 graduates received their Diploma in Global Teacher Education, a scholarship grant from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

A total of 1, 045 graduates (composed of Filipino and International students) marched in celebration of their success. 13 Honor Graduates, 10 Academic Distinction Awardees and 15 Loyalty Awardees were recognized. Also honored were the National Topnotchers in the June 2019 Nurse Licensure Examination namely: Mr. Geevee Ventula (Top 3), Ms. Lea Marie Serador (Top 7) and Mr. Airon Vince Calica (Top 10) and SPUP as Top 4 Performing School in the Philippines in the March 2019 Pharmacy Licensure Examination.

The graduation ceremonies were graced by the parents and relatives of the graduates, the family of Atty. Reyno, Dr. Julieta Paras (Director, Commission on Higher Education), Dr. Nerisa Canguilan (Director, Civil Service Commission), Dr. Rodrigo Bulaqui (Director, Professional Regulations Commission), Mr. Allan Sibal and Team (HLGP Coordinator, Department of Health), and SPC Sisters from Perpetual Succor Hospital (Cebu City) and St. Paul Hospital (Tuguegarao City).

SPUP CONVENES MEDIA-PARTNERS FOR THANKSGIVING CONFERENCE

As the closing of the academic year, 2018-2019 approaches, SPUP convened its Media-Partners for a Kapihan (Thanksgiving Press Conference) on June 21, 2019. The event was held as a thanksgiving of SPUP for the support and assistance of its Media-Partners. Held at the SPUP Boardroom, the gathering was led by Sr. Merceditas Ang, SPC (University President) together with the Sisters and Lay Administrators of SPUP.

The gathering was opened with a fun-filled dance salvo of the BEU Pre-School pupils who grooved for an ultimate dance throwback. The performance was cheered by their parents, media-partners, SPC sisters and administrators.

Anchored on the theme: “Celebrating Life and Blessings,” Dr. Allan Peejay Lappay (Director, Alumni, External Relations and Advocacies), provided updates on SPUP’s undertakings and announced the upcoming events of the University. The Press Conference was highlighted by fruitful exchanges, discussions and commendations from the attendees. Sr. Merceditas and members of the SPUP administration joyfully responded to the queries of the members of the media regarding the academic endeavors and community engagements of the University.

Present in the Kapihan were Ms. Gene Baquiran (PIA); Ms. Vivian De Guzman, Ms. Teresa Campos and Ms. Florence Tarcina (DWPE-PBS); Ms. Rose Ann Ballad (Bombo Radyo); Mr. Cayetano Tuddao (Clearview CATv); Mr. Ramille Lucap (RGMA); Ms. Annabel Basuba (DZCV); Mr. Jerico Joshua Kahulugan (Northern Forum); Ms. Rosanna Nido, Ms. Sarah Malaban and Mr. Servilon Nicolas (RBC Cable).

SPUP-BEU SENDS OFF SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES

Five Hundred (500) graduates were recognized by the Basic Education Unit-Senior High School Department - Set B in its 2nd Commencement Exercises held at the University Gymnasium on June 19, 2019. Three hundred nine (309) students completed Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) strand, one hundred seventeen (117) finished Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM) strand, while seventy-four (74) fulfilled their requirements for the Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) strand.

Jerobie R. Furugganan and Jim Jerico Cedric G. Uy, both from the STEM strand garnered With High Honors, led the graduating class in expressing their heartfelt gratitude to their families, teachers, and the sisters of St. Paul of Chartres for all their accomplishments and holistic development; and in pledging their loyalty to their alma mater, respectively.

To acknowledge the efforts of meritorious students, the following awards were given: With High Honors, With Honors, Deportment, Subject Proficiency, Leadership and Service Awards, Performing Arts Awards, Athletics, Perfect Attendance, Parish Involvement, Research Award and International Immersion in Malaysia award.

After fulfilling all the requirements prescribed for in their academic courses, the graduates were presented by Sister Carmelita S. Villanueva, spc (BEU Principal) and were confirmed by Sister Merceditas O. Ang, spc, (University President). Ms. Esperanza Laguitao (President, BEU Alumni Chapter) inducted them to the SPUP Alumni Association.

BEU HOLDS JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL MOVING UP CEREMONIES

With the theme: “Paulinian Education and Discipleship: Global Catalyst of Excellence in the 4th Industrial Revolution,” the Grade 10 students finally took their bow as they received their certificate of completion last June 18, 2019 at the University Gymnasium. Sister Merceditas Ang, SPC, (University President) and Sister Carmelita Villanueva, SPC (BEU Principal) awarded the certificates to the 194 Junior High School completers who hurdled the basic requirements prescribed by DepEd and conformed with the standards of SPUP.

Dr. Agripina Maribbay (VP for Academics) awarded the medals and certificates to the meritorious students. Gold cards were given to those whose general weighted average ranges from 90% and above. Moreover, those who exhibited exemplary behavior and imbibed the Pauline values and principles were given a deportment award. Students’ performances in co-curricular activities were also recognized as they received special awards in leadership, parish involvement, and sports, to name a few.

Krizel Ann Lagundi, this year’s Grade 10 first honors, delivered her words of gratitude on behalf of her batch. She expressed her gratitude to the sisters and administrators for providing the students with the best facilities and a healthy environment where they can grow and mature as responsible individuals. Further, she also thanked those people who greatly influenced her life as a Junior High School student- her family, teachers, classmates, and friends.

The moving up ceremonies were facilitated by Mr. Chester Karl Manuel and Miss Mary Jane Abella.

BEU LAUDS 2019 GRADE 6 GRADUATES

The Basic Education Unit- Grade School department recognized the 122 grade 6 graduates during its 102nd Commencement Exercises held at the University Gymnasium on June 17, 2019.

Led by this year’s first honors, Gianna Therese T. Addun, the members of the graduating class were awarded for attaining the following awards: With Honors, Deportment, Subject Proficiency, Deportment Award, Leadership and Service Awards, Journalism Award , and Club Awards.

Moreover, international and national winners/qualifiers in different fields such as robotics, journalism, sports and mathematics were recognized.

Sr. Carmelita S. Villanueva, spc (BEU Principal) presented the graduates after having well and faithfully fulfilled all the requirements prescribed for in their academic course. The candidates for graduation were confirmed by Sr. Merceditas O. Ang, spc (University President), conferring on them the certificates which they have merited.
