Sr. Merceditas Ang, SPC (University President) was inducted in the IDDU Honor Roles Award for Women on March 30, 2023. The event was organized in celebration of Women’s Month by Philippine Information Agency (PIA) – Cagayan Valley. Sr. Merceditas was honored for her exceptional contributions in the education system as demonstrated by the numerous innovations and programs she institutionalized bolstering the global presence of St. Paul University Philippines through its internationalization program. Moreover, she was commended for serving as an inspiration and a model to the rest of the women sector along with her engagement and advocacies on poverty alleviation, community development, and women empowerment.

The IDDU Honor Roles Award for Women is a brainchild of PIA Region II. It emphasizes “Iddu,” the Ibanag term for “loved one or beloved,” and “Roles” for the relevant and valuable contributions of the honorees to the community. The program is endeavored to recognize selected women and women’s organization in the Cagayan Valley Region of their successes and challenges in their quests for countryside development. Now on its eleventh season, this year’s awarding ceremonies was spearheaded by Dir. Angely Mercado, MPA (Regional Director, PIA) and Dr. Oliver Baccay (Asst. Regional Director, PIA) and held at Casa Angela, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.

PIA’s annual search for IDDU Honor Roles Award for Women is a paperless recognition wherein interviews are conducted to the identified nominees, along with the leaders and individuals who can attest to the nominees’ exemplary character and outstanding performances. The selection body is composed of PIA-Information Officers, Local Writers and the members of the Informers’ Club, a Cagayan-based media organization, who have worked and witnessed the transformational advocacies and developmental engagement of the nominees.  Honorees must not have questionable background in any form and have contributed to effect change in the lives of the people, particularly women, in their respective communities.

Since its inception, the IDDU Honor Roles Award for Women has been conferred to selected women and women’s organization engaged in various field of service-categories. This year, Sr. Merceditas (Education) joined the roster of awardees with Judge Raquel Aglaua (Gender and Development), Atty. Cristina Antonio (Local Governance), Ms. Jeanne Alexandra M. Felipe (Youth), Dir. Romleah Juliet Ocampo (Public Service), Ms. Helen Eva Guzman (Agriculture and Fisheries), Ms. Maria Gisela Lonzaga (Health and Nutrition), Supt. Loreta Narag (Humanitarian Service) Ms. Ma. Jenelyn Busania (Entrepreneurship) and Ms. Venus Cadabona (Social Service).
