October 04, 2022 – SPUP received a vehicle donated by German Doctors for Developing Countries (e.V.) for the implementation of their collaborative project on “Improving the health situation in 15 villages through access to basic health care and income-generating measures.” The donation was an offshoot of the partnership engagement between the two institutions to facilitate the conveyance of training and development resources in the municipalities of Abulug, and Pamplona, Cagayan, and in the towns of Luna, Flora, and Pudtol in the Province of Apayao, as the project areas. The endowed pick-up truck is under the custody of the University’s Community Development Center.

Dr. Christine Winkelmann, (Member, Executive Board), Mr. Andreas Schmitz (Project Officer, Philippines), Ms. Pia Winter (Consultant, BMZ Projects) and Ms. Joelyn Soldevilla Biag, (Chief of Operations Office, Committee of German Doctors-Philippines) paid a courtesy to Sr. Merceditas Ang, SPC, (SPUP, University President)  on August 21, 2022 to mark the beginning of the project. Through the Community Development Center, SPUP will facilitate the training of Barangay Health Workers (BNS) and Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS) on Primary Health Care (PHC) and the provision of necessary equipment for community basic health care services. Moreover, the families of the trained BHWs/BNS will also be given opportunities to earn a living through the organized community savings groups. Within a three-year period, the endeavor aimed to directly impact 710 people and reach 16,774 residents in the project areas.
