May 10, 2022 – His Excellency Most Reverend Charles John Brown, DD (Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines) presided the Thanksgiving Mass for SPUP’s 115th Foundation Anniversary. With him were the Most Reverend Ricardo Baccay, DD (Archbishop, Archdiocese of Tuguegarao), the Right Reverend Monsignor Julien Kabore (Chargé d’Affaires, Philippine Nunciature) and members of the clergy who served as Chaplains and are currently teaching in SPUP as concelebrants.

SPUP’s 115th Foundation Anniversary celebration was also made significant by the presence of Sr. Lilia Therese Tolentino, SPC (Provincial Superior – SPC Philippine Province), members of the Provincial Council, members of SPUP Board of Trustees, Sisters from different SPC Communities, and partner agencies. The Eucharistic Celebration served as the highlight of SPUP’s year-long activities for the commemoration of its 115th Foundation Anniversary. It was the thanksgiving feast of the SPUP community to God for all the blessings He bestowed on the life and mission of the University through the years.

In his homily, Msgr. Brown shared that it was his first time to visit Cagayan and he was glad to be with SPUP community together with Archbishop Baccay and the clergy of Tuguegarao to celebrate the 115th Foundation Anniversary of SPUP. “This University is a tribute not only to the Philippine nation, the province of Cagayan, but also in a special way to the Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres.”

Also, in attendance in the Mass were SPUP administrators, SPUP-SPC Sisters, employees, students, SPUP Alumni and invited guests. In her thanksgiving message, Sr. Merceditas Ang, SPC (University President) mentioned that “the best legacy of SPUP is built on the thousands of lives it has touched and transformed… We are resolved to continue the mission to educate the young, serve the poor, and celebrate God’s love.” An agape with a cultural show ensued the thanksgiving celebration.

Prior to the thanksgiving celebration, the SPUP Family, headed by Sr. Merceditas and through the assistance of the Philippine National Police accorded Archbishop Brown with an arrival honor at the Tuguegarao City Airport.
