St. Paul University Philippines in partnership with Respati Yogyakarta University Indonesia conducted a Collaborative General Lectures in Accounting with the theme, “Challenges and Opportunities of IT and Accounting” on October 27, 2021 participated in by more than 350 participants – school officials, guests, and accounting students of both universities via Zoom Conferencing. The joint lectures were in realization of the Memorandum of Understanding between the two Universities, working together to enhance instruction.

The event commenced with the opening remarks delivered by Mr. Jeremy G. Morales, Ph.D (Director of International Relations, SPUP). Dwi Astuti, S.Si, MM (Head of Development and Cooperation Bureau, UNRIYO) presented the statement of purpose. Meanwhile, Dr. Setiyanto, DEA (Vice Rector II, UNRIYO) and Sister Merceditas O. Ang, SPC (President, SPUP) delivered their welcome messages having the same note of a fruitful partnership and collaboration for both the universities as they carry out future activities and program agreements.

After the preliminaries, the participants were directed to their respective breakout rooms for the specific lectures. For the general lectures in accounting session, the event was moderated by Ms. Divine C. Suyu (BS in Accountancy – 4, SPUP). Dr. Charito Manuel-Guillermo, CPA being the first resource speaker, discussed The Changes in Business Environment where she emphasized about different factors concerning the ever-changing demands in the 21st century face of business. On the other hand, Mr. Putra Wanda, S. Kom., M.Eng., Ph.D presented The Impacts of IT for Accounting, highlighting the relevant trends as to the existence of technological advancements in the field of Accounting.

The open forum followed, which was actively participated in by the students of both universities as there were varied questions entertained by the resource speakers. Ms. Devi Rosmawati, the interpreter from UNRIYO, assisted by facilitating the translation of the answers to the students from Indonesia.

The event concluded with closing messages of Dr. Shirley B. Enriquez (Program Coordinator for Business and Accountancy – SPUP) and Ms. Khaula Lutfiati Rohmah (Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Economics – UNRIYO).
