Mr. Sherwin T. Pazzibugan (BS Nursing IV) is the first recipient of the DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune System) Award for Extraordinary Nursing Students in the Philippines. The virtual awarding ceremony on October 4, 2021 was spearheaded by Health Carousel Philippines, Inc., in collaboration with Health Carousel LLC and the DAISY Foundation (Honoring Nurses Internationally in Memory of J. Patrick Barnes who died at 33 of an auto-immune disease).

Mr. Pazzibugan was recognized for his commitment to care and compassion through nurse-patient connection, and in making a difference in healthcare amidst the challenges of the current health situation. The award also aimed to inspire and motivate nursing-students to acquire the best clinical skill possible and to impact patients and families with human spirit and kindness. The honor also ensured that flexibility is tailored to SPUP’s unique culture and values.

The Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nursing Student is designed to remind students that even on the hardest days in nursing school, they are called to promote excellence and compassion. This is a recognition of commendable and inspiring effort, character, and practice of care and compassion shown to patients and their families in celebration of what it truly means to be a nurse.

With Mr. Pazzibugan as the awardee, the other finalists from SPUP – College of Nursing were: Ms. Karina Javier, Alyssa Articulo, Ms. Valerie Lucero, and Ms. Jamaica Martin.
