August 10, 2021 – As part of the Virtual Global Peace Convention 2021 along the track on Transforming Education in Asia, Sr. Merceditas Ang, SPC (University President) participated as a speaker on the session on “Realizing Future-Ready Education.” Together with her were Mr. Francis Jim Tuscano (Co-Founder, Tagpros Education), Prof. Lilia Habacon (Executive Director, Philippine Science High School System), and Engr. Leo De Velez (Co-Founder and Chairperson, Frontlearners, Inc.). The panel of discussion was moderated by Ms. Ann Marlita Montejo Arevalo (Education Director, Global Peace Foundation Philippines).

As the speakers shared their perspectives on the essential competencies and changes needed in education to ensure that students have the capacity to positively impact their lives, work, communities, and the world, Sr. Merceditas shared SPUP’s Framework on advancing future-ready education by discussing the University’s “Sustainability, Quality, and Technology (SQT) Model. Accordingly, high quality education ensures the holistic development of knowledge, skills, values, and character. It also fosters the development of critical thinking and cognitive flexibility, problem-solving abilities and literacy, innovative mindset, research, leadership and social skills and aptitude on digital platforms and technologies that can enhance the quality engagement and outcomes of learning. As technology fosters the future directions of education, sustainable development ensures the posterity of the land and people. SPUP’s future-ready education does not only develop students to become employable and entrepreneurial but also to be responsible citizens – caring for people and environment for the good of humanity, and advocating for a just, peaceful, sustainable, and a better world.

An open forum ensued after the discussions of the members of the panel. The 2021 Virtual Global Peace Convention will culminate on August 15, 2021.
