On the occasion of SPUP’s 114th Founding Anniversary on May 10, 2021, Sister Merceditas Ang, SPC (University President) celebrated her Silver Jubilee as a Religious Sister in the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres.

The SPC Sisters’ Community, led by Sr. Maria Lirio Gavan, SPC (Local Superior) spearheaded the celebration. The simple yet solemn occasion was witnessed by Sr. Adelina Javellana, SPC (Provincial Assistant for Health Care), SPUP administrators, and representatives of faculty, staff, and alumni.

The Thanksgiving Mass was celebrated by the Most Reverend Ricardo Baccay, DD (Archbishop of Tuguegarao) and concelebrated by Reverend Father Bernard Corpus (Parish Priest, St. Peter’s Metropolitan Cathedral Parish), Reverend Father Adalbert Barut (Rector, Ermita de San Jacinto) and Reverend Father Dennis Jake Ordillos (Chancellor, Archdiocese of Tuguegarao).  In his homily, Fr. Ordillos reflected on Sister Merceditas’ self-emptying life as a religious sister through her experience of God’s love as she responded to Him in love and entrusted her whole life to Him through the vocation He destined before she was born.

The Eucharistic celebration also incorporated Sr. Merceditas’ Renewal of Vows which she had made in the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres, her floral offering to the Blessed Virgin Mary and her words of Thanksgiving to all who graced the occasion, virtually and in-person. Despite of the COVID-19 pandemic, she said: “We may not fathom the depth and extent of consequences and implications, but we believe in God’s wisdom and kindness. We thank God for the gift of life and good health.”
