The Month of October is dedicated to the praying of the Holy Rosary to the Blessed Virgin Mary contemplating the events and mysteries in the life of Jesus Christ. It is a great opportunity to gather to pray to God in communion with the Basic Ecclesial Communities visited by the Image of the Blessed Virgin Mary under the title Our Lady of Fatima all throughout this month.

On October 30, 2019, SPUP culminated the month-long Rosary Devotion with a Living Rosary with the Campus Ministers portraying the Saints of the Church. The inspiration was from the declaration of Pope Francis for the Month of October as an Extraordinary Month for Mission calling for the renewal of missionary commitment through prayer and action.  Moreover, the portrayal of the Saints would hopefully inspire the young people of the Church that they who are gifted, beloved and empowered youth would appreciate the beauty of praying the rosary and respond to the call not only to be disciples of the Lord but to be “saints” in the world.

The gathering was highlighted by the Eucharistic Celebration presided by Rev. Fr. Bernard B. Corpus, Parish Priest of St. Peter’s Metropolitan Cathedral Parish.  In his homily, Father Bernie mentioned the significance of the Blessed Virgin Mary in our life of faith and her special place in our liturgy. Further, he emphasized the relation of our devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary to Christ and the Eucharist.

Integrated in the Liturgy was the Commissioning Rite of Campus Ministers Executive Board and Departmental Officers for the School Year 2019-2020.  Ms. Jessievic T. Pico called out their names after which Sister Mercedes Bacaoco, SPC presented them to the community and to Sister Merceditas Ang, SPC, University President, who conferred on them her acceptance; while Father Bernard Corpus blessed them after the Campus Ministers have made their commitment. The celebration culminated with the Blessing of the patio of Plaza de Martires.
