September 21, 2019: International Day of Peace. St. Paul University Philippines (SPUP), in cooperation with the World Curriculum and Instruction (WCCI), celebrated the International Day of Peace, highlighted by the theme: “Climate Action for Peace.” SPC Sisters, Administrators, Faculty members, international and local students gathered together for a series of activities.

At the SPUP Student Center, an Ecumenical Liturgy for Peace was held, consisting of the symbolic offering of the elements of life – water, earth, air and fire; the intercessory prayers in different languages, and the prayer for peace. The prayer gathering emphasized the call to peace as a communal act and a responsibility.

The community singing of “Let There Be Peace” on Earth was made more significant by the signing of the Pledge to Peace by all the participants. The endeavor signified the willingness of SPUP community to lead in the peace-building initiatives.

The Tree planting activity by the participants demonstrated the University’s commitment to environmental advocacy and stewardship.

Erecting placards of peace in the campus, with Bible quotations on peace, added significance to the International Day of Peace, instilling collective consciousness that everyone has the responsibility to work for world peace.

The celebration of the Day of Peace echoes the shared hope of the Paulinians to see a peaceful world where climate action is enforced, and the maintenance of a sustainable environment is ensured for the next generations to come.
