The Psychology Department of the School of Arts and Sciences spearheaded the conduct of a Regional Seminar on November 11-12, 2016 at the SPUP Global Center, with the theme “Ensuring Success and Happiness through Life Skills and Positive Psychology.” Participated in by Arts, Sciences and Graduate School professors, students and guidance counselors from the region, the said conference highlighted the plenary presentations and discussions of Dr. Nino Jose Mateo (De La Salle University), who tackled the science behind happiness and meaning in life stressing on the Emotional Quotient of a person; and, Dr. Henry S. Tenedoro (President of the Education for All Development Center), who expounded the topic on “Building the Resilient Heart, Mind and Spirit in the Midst of Failures” by explaining the psychological responses of a human being dealing with letdowns. Moreover, Ms. Lizel C. Sayangda also explained the topic on “Bouncing Back After Break-Up,” a talk discussing about controlling the perks of having relationships and dealing with break-ups; while, Professor Bartman I. Gacrama (University of La Sallete) talked about life in the 21st Century where people live in the world dictated by economy and the education systems disregard compassion skills just as the society lack moral wisdom skills. He concluded his presentation by stating that what the society needs is a dash of sympathy. The conference also featured research presentations of practitioners in the fields of psychology and education. It culminated with a thanksgiving by the organizers and participants.
