St. Paul University Philippines was honored at the 2018 International Assembly of Youth for UNESCO (Y4U) as Paulinians were recognized as Outstanding UNESCO Club leaders and champion. Ms. Trisha Elene dela Cruz (PALM-4) and Mr. Janesis RR Buena (SW-4) were named Outstanding Youth Leaders and Dr. Allan Peejay Lappay (Director, Alumni, External Relations and Advocacies) as an Outstanding Educator. The said Paulinians, who went through rigorous screening and deliberation processes, were recognized for their significant contribution in the attainment of UNESCO goals and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Moreover, the Paulinian Volunteers for Community Development (PVCD-UNESCO) Club was adjudged as one of the Outstanding UNESCO Clubs in the Philippines. Sr. Merceditas Ang, SPC (University President) and Mrs. Noemi Cabaddu (Director, Community Extension Services) witnessed the awarding ceremonies.
The endeavour is annually organized by the National Association of UNESCO Clubs in the Philippines (NAUCP). This year, it was held at the Icon Hotel, Timog Avenue, Quezon City, with the theme: “Protecting Heritage, Fostering Creativity.” It was attended by delegates from public and private learning institutions and local government units from the Philippines; and a number of participants and speakers from other countries like Japan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Canada, Thailand, Malaysia, Pakistan and Germany.
The three-day convergence also featured various activities such as paper/research presentations; seminar-workshop on Global Citizenship Education; academic and aesthetics contests; plenary talks, recognition of UNESCO Clubs with good standing and newly accredited clubs; search for Mr. and Ms. NAUCP Ambassadors; product display; and cultural show.
