The World Council for Curriculum (WCCI) and Instruction held its 18th World Conference on Education on July 14 - 20, 2018 at the Hotel Villa Maria Regina in Rome, Italy. With the theme: “Role of Education for Global Citizenship in Promoting Social, Economic and Environmental Justice,” the said international gathering was participated in by delegates from all over 15 countries. Sr. Merceditas Ang, SPC (University President), Mrs. Belen Lim (SPUPAA Auditor) and Dr. Allan Peejay Lappay (Director, Alumni, External Relations and Advocacies) represented SPUP along with the other attendees from the Philippines.
The internal conference featured research presentations along the areas of Diversity and Multiculturalism; Early Childhood Education; Peace and Social Justice; Global Citizenship and Democratic Governance; Environmental Justice; Peace and Social Justice; Humanistic Education; Teacher Education; Gender Equality and Empowerment; and Entrepreneurship. Sr. Merceditas presented her research on: “Character and Service Dimensions of Global Competencies for 21st Century Learning: Cross-Sectional Perspectives,” while Dr. Lappay on “Advocacies in Global Citizenship Education through Whole-School Approach: The St. Paul University Philippines’ Experience.” Moreover, plenary sessions tackled “The Flowering of Global Citizenship Education: Empowering and Transforming our Common Humanity Toward a Culture of Peace by Dr. Toh Swee-Hin (Laureate, UNESCO Prize for Peace Education) and “Constructivism: A Learning Theory for a Democratic Education” by Dr. Jessica Kimmel (WCCI President).
The conference also had Special Interest Group (SIG) discussions and presentations, cultural show and local tours.
Organized by the WCCI Board based in Alliant International University, California, USA, the gathering is biennially organized to promote person-to-person contact and transnational educational experiences and exchanges through collaboration and partnership from educators and practitioners around the world.
