Seven (7) Paulinian students from the College of Accountancy along with their coach Dr. Giged T. Battung joined the 7th ASEAN Accounting Education Workgroup (AAEW) Conference with Singapore Institute of Technologies (SIT) Symposium on Application of Technologies in Accounting Education at Singapore last June 28-29, 2018.

The AAEW consists of ASEAN accounting educators who serve as core group to collaborate in research, case development and instructional design for accounting education. It aims to provide input to and empower higher education accounting programs across ASEAN countries, enhancing their ability to produce graduates who can compete in the global accounting market.

One of the highlights of the event was the CAPSIM Core Competition facilitated by Mr. David Knock, Director EDCentral & Knock Education Consulting. The forty-four (44) delegates from the AAEW Universities were divided into eleven teams for the two industries – Blue and Green. The SPUP student- delegates were grouped as Green Baldwin whose members are Frolyn Bonggawon, Eduardo Balao, Celine Yoma, Kimberly Ventura; while the Blue Baldwin were Ian Jasper L. Pagulayan, Karen Mae L. Valdez, and Jermaine Jude Calagui.

The competition had four (4) phases to complete to qualify for the final round. These phases exposed the students to concepts and terminologies in a set of experiential learning solutions that measures and develops their key competencies. Each industry competed against each other in a competitive market environment in the search for higher market share and profitability. At the end of the competition, the Green and Blue Baldwin from St. Paul University Philippines were ranked fourth place.

Moreover, the students had hands-on experience on Tableau Application, one of the latest accounting data analytic tools. It is software application with real-time data analytics tool that can produce wide range of visualization to interactively present the accounting data and showcase visualization which economic decisions and insights can be drawn from.

In addition, the AAEW members had their annual meeting presided by Dr. Nanny Dewi Tanzil, president of AAEW from Universitas Pagjadjaran, Indonesia. In the working committees, Dr. Battung was appointed as member of the Research Development Committee. The meeting was participated in by other Filipino educators from De La Salle University, University of Sto. Tomas, Far Eastern University, Ateneo de Naga University, Southland College, and St. Louis University. The other members came from universities from Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam and Indonesia.
