Caritas Christi urget nos!
With the theme: "Making a difference globally," SPUP's 13th Mid-Year Commencement Exercises on January 27, 2018 was celebrated as a thanksgiving for the academic success of its graduates.
The celebration began with a Baccalaureate Mass presided by Rev. Fr. Bernard Corpuz (Parish Priest, St. Peter's Metropolitan Cathedral Parish) with Rev. Fr. Carlos Evangelista (SPUP Chaplain) as concelebrant. In his homily, Fr. Corpuz stressed that graduation as a life's event must be characterized with gratitude. He then urged the candidates for graduation to live a life of gratitude in hope, in responsibility, in faith and in mission. As the Eucharistic Celebration incorporated the solemn Rite of Mission Sending, the graduates prayed for their Missionary Promises as the congregation imparted their blessings on them.
The graduation rites were held at the University Gymnasium. This was higlighted by the Commencement Address of the Guest of Honor, Atty. Lily Freida Milla, CESO IV (Director for Intenational Affairs Services, Commission on Higher Education). She expounded the theme by challenging the graduates to make good use of their international Paulinian education to continuously develop, shift paradigms and be responsive to the demands of the fast changing professional world. For Atty. Milla, the emergence of technology in all aspects of life must be rooted in values and in the highest aspirations of humanity- the true, the good and the beautiful. She challenged the graduates to anchor their professional and life endeavour with the Paulininian core values as these indeed will surely impel Paulininians to make a difference globally.
Mr. Moises Calucag (Master in Religious Education) led the Invocation. Ms. Alyssa Justine Valdez (BS Nursing, Cum Laude) read the address of petition followed by the presention of the graduates by Dr. Agripina Maribbay (VP Academics). Subsequently, Sr. Merceditas Ang, SPC (University President) conferred on the graduates the titles and degrees of their respective courses and programs. Ms. Sherwynne Paola Trinidad (BS Nursing, Cum Laude) expressed the gratitude of the graduates through her valedictory address. Ms. Krysthia Samantha Casaman (BS Medical Technology), a Loyalty Awardee, led the graduates to their Pledge of Loyalty, while, Mr. Miguel Lim (President, SPUPAA) inducted them to the Alumni Association. A total of 523 students graduated in the 13th Mid-Year Commencement Exercises.
