(by: Dr. Jeremy Godofredo Morales)

SPUP hosted a two-day forum on Teaching and Learning Foreign Language the Easy Way on January 24-25, 2018 with Dr. Virgilio “Vee” David as guest lecturer. The said forum was aimed at encouraging Filipino learners, young and adults, on the importance of recognizing Kanji and Hanzi characters as foundation to a deeper learning and understanding of both Japanese and Chinese languages.

In a special forum with Senior High School students and BS Information Technology students, Mr. Vee David advanced to them the idea of games development as an important tool in learning a foreign language. According to him, and as supported by Sister Merceditas Ang,SPC (University President) learning through games can be more fun and could be more encouraging especially for young learners. But as regards adult learners, other forms and strategies may be employed to suit their level.

The said forum is hoped to pave way for further collaborations between SPUP and Chinese, Japanese, English Language Systems (CJELS), Inc for Chinese and Japanese languages specifically on learning materials development.

Mr. Vee David is the author of the The Kanji Handbook which presents an ingenious and tested method to learn the 1,945 Kanji characters.
