Spearheaded by the Public Administration and Legal Management (PALM) Legis Club and the department’s Paulinian Student Government (PSG), the School of Arts, Sciences and Teacher Education (SASTE) conducted a Regional Seminar-Congress on the Fundamentals of Educational Laws last October 24,2017 at the Global Center (Sacred Heart of Jesus Training Center).
The Seminar-Congress commenced with a prayer followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem led by the Primousa Club. After which, Dr. Pilar B. Acorda, (Dean, SASTE) provided the House Rules and in the Introduction of the Speaker.
Having Atty. Josephus Jimenez as the sole speaker, he promoted the purpose of the laws of the land focusing on the prevailing rights regarding education.
In the first session of the seminar, Atty Jimenez defined the rule of law and emphasized that it is a covenant among the people of a civilized society. He also illuminated that peace and joy are contagious so the lack of either is also contagious. Moreover, he elaborated that the ultimate dream of the Filipino people, as set on the Preamble of the Consitution, is to build a just and humane society.
In the afternoon, his talk on the fundamentals of the education laws continued and a series of cases were also presented. Also, an open forum took place wherein certain issues regarding the questions of the rule of law were discussed.
Atty. Jimenez was the former HR Executive of San Miguel Corporation, Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines Inc., and Petron Corporation. He has been a Labor Undersecretary and a Labor Attaché for 7 years. He has also been a Professor of Law at the University of Sto. Tomas, Univesity of the East and several St. Paul Universities and Colleges.
