The Cagayan Valley Regional Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Council (CVDRRMC) has chosen St. Paul University Philippines (SPUP) as the Pilot School in Region II for the Third Quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED). Held on September 27, 2017, the drill was endeavored to enhance the preparedness of the academic community before, during and after an earthquake; to assess the response capability of the institution in responding to local incident; to evaluate the coordination mechanism between the school and local DRRMCs; and, to review the response capability of the local DRRMCs.
The NSED in SPUP was made possible through the assistance of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), Tuguegarao City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (City DRRMC), Department of Health (DOH), People’s General Hospital (PGH), Cagayan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (CPDRRMC), Rescue 111 and Media Partners.
The activity was coordinated and supervised by OCD Team headed by Mr. Dan Michael Villamil and SPUP Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Response (DPER) Team led by Dr. Allan Peejay Lappay (Chief Marshal) and Mr. Jomar Casil (Asst. Marshal). The entire academic community participated in the safety drill.
The post-conference was participated in by all sectors involved and was graced by (Ret.) Gen. Dante Balao (Regional Director, OCD). He highlighted the importance of the drill to educate students proper response in the event earthquake occurs. Gen. Balao, also personally thanked SPUP for acceding the request as pilot school for the third quarter NSED. The exercises ended with the acknowledgement and the recognition of the participants.
