The Universitas Sanata Dharma (USD) in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, accepted nine (9) students and one Faculty Adviser from SPUP’s School of Information Technology and Engineering (SITE) for a Cultural and Academic Exchange Program on August 21 – September 04, 2017. Mr. Rucelj Pugeda (IT Faculty Member), led SPUP’s delegation namely: Vincent Cenen Dayag (BSIT 3), Rolayne dela Paz, (BSIT 3), Diego Gracias Dumaua (BSIT 3), Ellaine Jane Hermano (BSIT 3), Zahn Xandre Gavino (BSIT 3), Joemel Gersaniba (BSIT 3), Patrick Jason Bernardino (BSIT 4), Raymond Nico Dansalan (BSIT 4), and Michael Angelo Tan (BSIT 4).
Mr. Ouda Teda Ena (Vice Rector for Collaboration and Alumni Affairs, USD) and Ms. Yurisdixta Menavia (Head of International Office, USD) welcomed the Paulinians and facilitated their orientation activities. During the course of the program, the participants undertook a series of hands-on activities in the fields of robotics; programming; data mining; image processing; computational science; graphics and animation. They were also immersed with Indonesian culture as they learned Coet-coetan (an Indonesian traditional dance); played gamelan instruments; designed personalized batik scarf; and fabricated wooden puppet and silver craft. They were also toured at Jogja Bay and strolled in the streets of Malioboro with their new-found friends from USD.
SPUP and Universitas of Sanata Dharma are both Catholic Universities. USD is administered by the Priests of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits); while SPUP by the Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres (SPC). The academic and cultural program is in fulfillment with the partnership between the two Higher Education Institutions. Moreover, it is also aligned with SPUP’s Internationalization initiatives along ASEAN integration.
