Caritas Christi urget nos!
In response to the call of forming intellectual, advanced, and up-to-date Medical Technology students as well as to foster and promote camaraderie among other institutions, the College of Medical Technology (MT) of St. Paul University Philippines recently hosted the 1st Medical Technology Scientific Conference.
Held on July 11-12, 2017, at the Convention Hall of SPUP’s Global Center (Sacred Heart of Jesus Training Center), the event was participated in by 350 students and professors from SPUP, University of St. Louis Tuguegarao (USLT), and Medical Colleges of Northern Philippines (MCNP).
The participants were formally welcomed by Ms. Victoria Bianca Acorda, RMT, Associate Dean of Medical Technology of SPUP. The keynote speech was delivered by Ms. Donna Therese Taguinod, RMT, MPH, President of Philippines Association of Medical Technologists, Inc.
Grounded on the theme, “Medical Technology Intelligence: Transcending New Heights through Connection, Expansion, and Advancement,” the invited speakers enriched the students’ knowledge by thoroughly discussing the technicalities and innovations of Molecular Pathology, Laboratory Management, Immunology-Serology, and Nuclear Medicine.
Mr. Rommel Salceda, RMT, Department Manager, at Institute of Pathology, St’ Luke’s Medical Center, talked about Molecular Pathology and Laboratory Management, giving emphasis on the need to always give accurate, reliable, and timely results. Meanwhile, Ms. Jinky Tuliao, RPh, MPH, Faculty Member at the College of Allied Health Sciences at Cagayan State Unversity, discussed innovations and updates on Immunology-Serology. Lastly, Mr. Dorina Sabatin, RMT, MPH, Program Chair of Medical Technology at Cagayan State University talked about Nuclear Medicine.
The conference also provided an opportunity for student-interaction as they shared their insights, clarified their thoughts and posed their queries to the speakers.
