Five students of the Doctor of Philosophy in Rhetoric and Linguistics (Ph.DRL) program experienced a rigorous internship in teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL) at Chang Jung Christian University (CJCU) at Tainan, Taiwan. Ms. Brenda Lumines, Ms. Mary Rose Natividad, Ms. Evelyn Serquina, Ms. Myrna Lynn Meneses and Mr. Christopher Lord Tulauan availed of the opportunity to undergo cultural and academic exchange as part of their doctoral program to teach English in the Language Education Center of CJCU.

From April 15 – May 14, 2017, the student-interns observed EFL Teaching, taught in the different departments the Basic English courses like reading, writing and speaking, gave tutorials and conducted free talk with students. They also led the Philippine Night Presentations, which showcased the Filipino culture and traditions. In the program, they featured the culture of the Cordillera Region through songs and dances. Moreover, they also demonstrated Philippine Culinary Ingenuity by preparing delicacies for the students to taste. As a result, the audience was very much satisfied with their performance for having seen another part of the Filipino culture and the Filipino delicacies were a hit.

They were awarded certificates of completion for the internship and were toured to different tourist destinations around Tainan and Kaohsiung. In effect, the Dean of the Office of International Affairs told the students to tell the administrators of SPUP to consider seriously in expanding the program for two months instead of only one month because of the mutual benefits it has given to CJCU and SPUP.
