Chosen by the Philippine Heart Association as the site of the 2017 Mass CPR Nationwide Campaign in Cagayan, SPUP hosted the conduct of the said health program on March 6, 2017. Held at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Training Center (Global Center), the event highlighted the theme: “Save a life, Learn CPR," and was participated in by 600 students and employees. The said health campaign fostered public awareness on the importance of Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). The activity was also endeavored to impart knowledge and skills relative to the proper execution of CPR as a response to community emergency-medical situations like cardiac arrest and the like.
With the successful passage of Republic Act 10871 (Basic Life Support Training in Schools Act) or the “Samboy Lim Law,” five of Region II’s premier Cardiologists (Dr. Valeriano Combate, Jr., Dr. Ma. Raul Combate, Dr. George Ramos, Dr. Christy Babaran and Dr. Ramon Gonzales) undertook the initiative to spearhead the said training – activity. The program was supported by the Philippine Heart Association – Cagayan Valley Chapter, in cooperation with the Regional Offices of BFP and DOH.
SPUP’s University Health Services Unit, headed by Dr. Maria Consuelo M. Manuel, MD, together with Dr. Grace D. Tamayao, Dr. Angelica S. Asuncion, Ms. Danica Rachelle V. Lim, RN., and Ms. Bernadette D. Quiambao, RN, MSN, served as facilitators of the said activity. Accordingly, the program generated a baseline of trainees as future lifesavers.
