Ten (10) College Faculty members participated in the Training of Trainors for the New General Education (GEC) Core Courses on January 4-20, 2017. Dr. Pilar Acorda and Mr. Roldan Bangalan attended the course on Mathematics in the Modern World; Mr. Sergio Imperio and Ms. Shirley Enriquez on The Contemporary World; and Ms. Wilma Udanga on Science, Technology and Society at the Ateneo de Manila University. Ms. Evelyn Pacquing was trained at the University of Batangas on Purposive Communication; whereas, Dr. Anna Marie Hernandez at the Miriam College on Understanding the Self. At the University of the Philippines – Diliman, Dr. Billy Siddayao participated in the program on Readings in Philippine History, Ms. Lourdenia Taguiam on The Life and Works of Rizal and Dr. Jesus Pizarro on Ethics.
Sponsored by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), “the Training of Trainors aims to assist higher education institutions (HEls) transition to the new General Education Curriculum (GEC) and focus on the enablement of faculty to: (1) learn the philosophy of liberal education, away from the strictly disciplinal and remedial thrust of current GE courses; (2) teach the interdisciplinary GE core courses using the new materials; (3) serve as trainors of other GE faculty; and (4) recognize, share, and disseminate best practices in general education” (Memo from the Chairperson, Nov. 29, 2016).
