The St. Paul University Philippines Alumni Association (SPUPAA) first saw light in the early 60’s. Its founders belonged to the prewar high school graduates of the First Catholic School in Tuguegarao, then known as the Sacred Heart of Jesus Institution (SHOJI). A few of these “fundadores” are still living albeit differently abled now. Understandably, these respected elders of the community find recalling events of bygone days a labored struggle against a failing memory and a diminishing mental alertness. A brief account on the alumni association history is a debt to posterity that needs to be redeemed. Records that document the activities undertaken by the past officers and members of the association have been lost in transit due to the frequent relocation of the alumni office over the years.
From the accounts of the “fundadores,” Mrs. Josefina Sancho and a number of prewar alumni had been meeting to brainstorm on the prospect of organizing an alumni group. Dr. Briccio Pobre was tapped to assume the leadership then he relinquished it to Dr. Rosario Singson-Mallonga, who accepted and served as the association’s first president for three years. Eventually, a fledgling alumni association emerged. With her at the helm, Dr. Mallonga vigorously pushed the Paulinian Alumni to engage in activities that gave a name and face to the St. Paul Alumni Association, the first and the only active alumni group in the community at that time. Through the years, the association had the following succession of Presidents:
|Presidents||Tenure of Office|
|Dr. Rosario-Singson Mallonga||1967-1970|
|Mrs. Angelina Kadano-Mendoza||1970-1972|
|Mrs. Salud-Pagela Guzman||1972-1974|
|Dr. Natividad Alonzo-Ayala||1974-1976|
|Mrs. Rizalina Hernando-Anchanzar||1976-1978|
|Dr. Lourdes Atabug-Romero||1978-1980|
|Mrs. Clorinda Tiangco-de Rivera||1980-1984|
|Mr. Supremo Bautista||1984-1988|
|Mr. Pedro Trinidad||1988-1989|
|Atty. Venancio del Rosario||1989-1993|
|Dr. Liduvina Reyes||1993-1999|
|Mrs. Belen Barias-Lim||1999-2007|
|Hon. Danilo Baccay||2007-2012|
|Mr. Miguel Lim||2012-present|
As the school has metamorphosed into a University with global perspective, so has the alumni association changed considerably in its programs, priorities and activities. Through the years, the Paulinian spirit of service to the school and the community remains as its stamp of identity as the SPUP continually provides quality, Catholic, Paulinian education for the future University alumni.
